Hettie Feith Wells founded Hettie's Rock & Crystal Shop in 1968, making it the oldest supplier of rocks, fossils, and crystals in New Zealand. HETTIE was one of the pioneers in New Zealand to sell crystals for their metaphysical uses. Over the years, she became highly sought after for her extensive collection of rocks and crystals, as well as her profound knowledge of the subject.
Whenever the opportunity arose, Hettie would embark on rockhounding adventures. Much of the original merchandise for sale in the shop was personally collected by her. In fact, she discovered many of the localities still utilized today, with some even bearing her name.
Not only did Hettie sell rocks and crystals, but from the beginning, she also crafted various items such as jewelry, polished tumbled stones, and gem trees.
Hettie was always a bit of a character. This picture is her invention of a home made gemstone tumbler. It was wind powered and had barrels with rough unpolished stones attached to the pedals.
