The book that you will like the most is the best one for you, however, if you want a recommendation from Hettie's Rock & Crystal Shop, we recommend the following books:

1. The Crystal Bible

  • The Crystal Bible Volume 1:

Beautifully illustrated, The Crystal Bible offers a comprehensive guide to crystals, their shapes, colors and applications. With informative descriptions and an easy-to-use format, it is an indispensable practical handbook for crystal lovers and users everywhere - both beginner and expert alike.

The book's directory format and beautiful, full-color photos ensure that the crystals are easily identifiable. Descriptions, which accompany each of the crystals, provide all the information on their appearance, worldwide distribution, attributes, actions and healing properties.

All the major and less known stones currently available are contained inside, including those only recently discovered. A comprehensive index cross-referencing crystals to applications, aliments and conditions make this book a vital reference for all crystal users.

  • The Crystal Bible Volume 2

The Crystal Bible Volume 2 provides an essential companion reference to the original bible, fully describing the properties of over 200 crystals not found in The Crystal Bible Volume 1. Featuring new information on crystals for energy enhancement and healing grids, the historical use of crystals from biblical times to the present day and the latest updates on geological research, this comprehensive guide offers detailed analysis on the extensive range of new crystals on the market. This book also provides essential information on cleansing crystals, types of crystals and crystal shapes to give the reader extensive knowledge of their chosen stones.

  • The Crystal Bible Volume 3

This third volume of the bestselling Crystal Bible presents more than 250 new generation, high-vibration stones for healing and transformation. Included are many rare minerals whose esoteric properties are not described elsewhere. This essential guide also includes a section on crystal skulls, crystal beings, Madagascan stones, and how to work with the "new" chakras, such as the Soul Star and Manifestation chakras, that are stimulated by the powerful crystals featured.

The author of all these books is Judy Hall, who has been using her extensive collection of crystals in her healing and divination work for almost thirty years. She has written 18 books, including the best-selling Illustrated Guide to Crystals, The Crystal User's Handbook, The Illustrated Guide to Astrology, The Zodiac Pack and The Art of Psychic Protection. She lives in Edmondsham, England.

2. The Field Guide to New Zealand Geology, by Jocelyn Thornton

This is the first field guide written for the general public and beginners in geology in New Zealand. Now fully revised and updated, it shows travellers in New Zealand something of the tremendous variety of our rocks, minerals and fossils and describes what to look for in many areas where rock formations are prominent. It covers the history of New Zealand from its beginnings on the sea floor some 600 million years ago to its present patchwork landscape of volcano, range and plain.

This land was formed from many different layers of rock - volcanic flows, forest debris, ocean mud. All these have special characteristics, which are explained and illustrated to enable readers to find the layers and understand their origins and what they can tell us about the landscapes of the past. The crystals that grew in the rocks and the remains of living creatures that were preserved are also illustrated and described.

Written in simplified terms, it includes an introductory chapter on general geology, a geological time chart and quick reference maps of the North Island and the South Island for travelers.

3. Rock & Gem, by Ronald Louis Bonewitz

From the primeval origins of rocks and gems to their astonishing modern-day uses and appeal, this is the ultimate portrait of the Earth's natural treasures. Beautifully designed and packed with photos, there is something in this book for almost everyone, covering almost every topic on rocks and gems there is. It is worth buying this book for the photos alone!

The information in this book is gathered into fun and informative nuggets of history, science, lore and so much more.

This is a staff favorite.
